What to do in Rio?

I am fortunate to have to travel to Rio de Janeiro next week and stay there for 5-6 days. I am interested in getting some suggestions about what to do while in Rio, and whether there are any particular good books on Rio I should pick up before going there . I speak the language somewhat (I lived 3 years in Portugal), so hopefully that will help to unlock a bit more than the obvious tourist attractions.

On the odd chance that you're into skateboarding, swing by the skatepark out at the end of Ipanema.

You'll never find a more spectacular location, especially if you manage to catch sunset out there.
