I spent the past days at Middleware 2004, where I gave the opening keynote and ran the panel on "Web Service - The end of middleware as we know it". I also had the opportunity to talk to many interesting people in my new role as Amazonian. It was great to see Thorsten von Eicken again, who gave a great keynote on the Citrix Online (GoToMyPC) operation. Other bloggers there were my buddy Steve Vinoski and Toronto local rock star John Lam. I am counting on them to provide a retrospect of the conference. I had enlisted both to be on the panel, as well as Rachid Guerraoui and Bettina Kemme. We ran the panel in entertainment mode where the panelist had to pretend to be presidential candidates and the audience could ask questions as long as they were in a political format. I was great fun.
During the panel Steve produced his first public artwork ever. Below is a picture of it. If there is sufficient interested in purchasing it, we will put it on e-bay ....
I am sitting in the airport lounge now waiting for my flight that will take me to Cyprus for DOA 2004. I will once again meet up with Steve there, so if some of you have requests for special drawings from this old master, please let us know.
