Down the Coast

This will be the first time for me that traveling to California does not mean shifting time zones. Early December 3 conferences are on the program:

Usenix WORLDS'04. The First Workshop on Real, Large Distributed Systems. Title says it all.
Usenix/ACM OSDI'04. The off-year counterpart to SOSP. There are a few excellent papers in this conference. Robbert van Renesse's Chain-Replication paper is certainly one of them,
CMG 2004. The yearly meeting of the Computer Measurement Group. I am giving an invited talk based on the "Web Services are not Distributed Objects" paper. I was invited to give this talk when I was still at Cornell, but the cool thing is that I now have a lot more material on how simple web-services can be, based on the AWS experiences.

Regarding CMG ... I was invited way back in 1996 to present something I'd shown at USENIX. They told me how it was such a huge conference... but they didn't tell me there were 8-10 parallel tracks. So the "invited talk" had all of 20-30 people in the room. I imagine your reputation will be more of a draw :)
